Cooking fish fingers in the microwave tips
There are a couple of things to be aware of:
As you turn the fish fingers, you need to treat them very delicately. The battered crumbs will fall off if you move them too fast.
Due to the build-up of steam in a microwave oven, the breadcrumb coating won’t go crispy like they will if you bake them in the oven, under the grill or fry them. They will still be fine to eat. It’s more about how they look, rather than how they taste.
If you or your kids are a little fussy about food texture, instead of having them with other foods on a plate, have them in a fish finger butty or a wrap.
You need to make sure you cook the fish fingers slowly and a little bit at a time. Don’t just put them on and leave them as you will ruin the food and they will turn to mush.
Microwavable fish fingers
You used to be able to buy frozen fish fingers that came in microwave packaging.
Young’s frozen Micro Fish Fingers took two minutes to cook in a microwave oven. The packaging was designed to help prevent the build-up of steam which otherwise made the fish fingers soggy.
I don't believe they are on sale anymore.
If you don't have access to an oven cooking fish fingers in this way will mean you get warm food to your plate.
